Here is the recipe of getting the finances back on track and set yourself up for next 30-40 years. You would need a decent paying job for 10 years. Each paycheck - whatever your take home is - take the 20% out - and put it in the investment portfolio. 

Buy individual company stocks. Not mutual funds or index funds or bonds or commodities- but individual companies stocks. Don't buy Top 10 companies - Don't buy junk stocks. Buy an average companies with just single criteria - their revenue has to be doubled in last 5 years. Just one criteria. Select 25-28 companies - and diversify that 20% of your paycheck each month - twice a month if you get 2 paychecks. Give yourself 10 years. Market will give you that much money - that you have never dream of. Give 10 years - 20% of paycheck - your next 30-40 years - you will never have to look for money.
